Saas-Fee is a little village in Switzerland. It is close to the glaciers of the Dom and the Allalinhorn. It is a very attractive ski resort in winter and hiking paradise in summer. Saas-Fee is also car-free, just like Zermatt. This is to prevent the city and nature from car emissions. So you have to park your car in a special car parks. I really enjoyed this, because here in Luxembourg, you can’t imagine your life without a car.
Our first destination in Saas-Fee was the restaurant named Threesixty. It is located on 3.500 meters high and it is the highest turning restaurant in the world. It is so popular because it is turning the whole time, so you can see the whole 360 degree panorama view of the mountains. This is really amazing while you’re eating. They offers food from all over the world, but especially Swiss food.
Something that happened to me on 3.500 meters of high, is that I forgot my phone in the restaurant underneath a table napkin. So, after leaving the restaurant, I had to go to the WC, and Yannick was waiting for me outside. When I came back, he hold my phone in is hand and told me that the waitress came and gave him it, because other guests had discovered it. I was really happy and surprised by the kindness of the people there. That isn’t something I’m used to. So, after all the time spent in Switzerland, I can say that the Swiss are really friendly and polite.
The reason why we visited Saas-Fee was of course the Ice Pavilion, which is a glacier that you can visit from the inside. It is the biggest Ice Pavilion in the world which opens its secrets for visitors. It is an over 5.000 cubic meter large grotto, which can be visited and also touched. You’ll get the chance to see how it looks inside a glacier.
I’m always fascinated by glaciers and so it was obviously clear that I had to take my chance and entered the Ice Pavilion. As is consists only of ice, it is clear that you have to take warm clothes with you. There are only 1 to 2° degrees in it.
In conclusion, Saas-Fee was more attractive than the other big cities in Switzerland, just because of the beauty of the nature, which is slowly going to disappear. Glaciers are melting, and you recognize this in Saas-Fee, because formerly, the glacier reached the village itself, which isn’t the case anymore.
