During the road trip through Norway, we also had the chance to observe the Northern Lights for the second time in Honningsvåg. I already explained the phenomena of the Aurora Borealis in Northern Lights in Iceland and I talked about them in Alta – the city of Northern Lights.
Honningsvåg is for most people the starting point to explore the North Cape. But it is also a good spot to see the Northern Lights dancing in the sky.
When we arrived in Honningsvåg, it snowed and I didn’t expect to see the Northern Lights that night. Fortunately Yannick was optimistic and still believed in the Northern Lights. So he always kept an eye in the sky.
During dinner, Yannick went outside to check if is was still snowing. Luckily the weather was better and the Northern Lights were already dancing outside. So we quickly ate our meal and put on our thermosuits. But once we were in the car to look for the perfect spot, it started snowing again.
After returning to the hotel and waiting that the snowstorm stops, we tried again to go hunting for the Aurora Borealis and this time we found a perfect spot and it even stopped snowing.
Even if I saw the Northern Lights already a couple of times, this time the whole sky was covered and were really strong. We were so happy that we could see them again.
So if you are looking for the Northern Lights, be patient and don’t give up. Sometimes they will appear faster than you expected. The Northern Lights are unpredictable and can appear at any time from September until April.
