The Snowmobile tour was organized by Sorrisniva, one of my favorite companies in Alta. We couldn’t have any better guide as Christine. She was very lovely and cared about us.
We were really lucky, because we were the only participants that day for the Snowmobile Safari. This meant that we had our personal guide.
Before everything started, we had to get our clothes and helmet. Even if you have warm winter clothes, I can recommend you to put also those thermo suits on, because it will get very cold on the snowmobile.
We started slowly at the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel to get into the forest. There we could speed up a little bit. It was a really new feeling and completely different to motorsport. I really had to hold on to the snowmobile, otherwise I would have probably fallen down.
It was a really nice tour through the forest where we had to cross one time a street. But you cannot drive like you want to. You also have to drive on the right side, because there are also other snowmobiles or other people who are crossing.
As we were driving through the forests of Alta, you could slowly see how the number of trees decreased and at one point, we have probably passed the tree line and everything we could see was a white snow blanket. Our guide stopped a few times to see if we were fine and not too cold. After we left the more forested part, we could speed up a little bit. Probably the snowmobile was reduced to 70 km/h, but for me as a passenger, this was already very fast. Sometimes I really had problems to hold on to the snowmobile.
After driving for almost one hour, we stopped at a place on the finnmark plateau where you could normally have an amazing view over the finnmark plateau up to the Pæska mountain. But unfortunately, it was very cloudy, so that we could not see the mountain.
As we were standing there at the Finnmark Plateau, it was so quiet and calm. I’m not used to such a silence, but I loved it. It has a really calming impact on you and your soul. You hear nothing else as the sound of the nature.
On our way back, we drove again through the forest and there we could see a small animal running away from us. I don’t know what it was, probably a fox or something like this. Closely to our starting point, we were able to drive with the snowmobile over a lake. And then, for the last 10 minutes of driving, it started snowing. I have to say that the weather at that time in Alta is really crazy! But I think this is also a part of it and defines the charm of the city.
All in one, I think the snowmobile Safari with Sorrisniva was one of the best things I did so far in my life. It is a really cool experience which I will not forget so quick. It is absolutely worth it, even if it costs a little bit more as normal touristic attractions, I can highly recommend it.
